Chapters

Training

Disabled Sports USA has collaborated with the U.S. Center for Safe Sport to provide training and education resources at a discounted chapter rate of $17/person.

Chapter administrators may contact Ryan Semke at rsemke@dsusa.org or 240.268.5370 to receive login in instructions for chapter use.

Criminal Background Checks

Criminal background checks will be refreshed every year, or as otherwise required by law, for Covered Individuals who are 18 years of age or older and perform services for DSUSA.

To assist chapters that do not currently have a background screening process in place, DSUSA has established a “parent” account with the National Center for Safety Initiatives (NCSI). Any chapter can establish a “child” account under Disabled Sports USA which waives the $100 start-up fee. After establishing an account, chapters are able to conduct Full Service Screens for $20.

To establish an account through NCSI:

  • Go to www.ncsisafe.com
  • Select “Apply for New Account” from the menu on the left side of the page
  • Fill out all required fields, and “Create Account”
  • Enter DISA1641 in the “Parent ID” field
  • An NCSI representative will contact you concerning the rest of your account set up
Parents & Participants

Training

The U.S. Center for Safe Sport provides parent and youth training services, toolkits, and resources free of charge to registered individuals. It is easy to create an online account at:

US Center for Safe Sport

These FREE resources include courses for children of preschool age; grades K-2; grades 3-5; middle school and high school. These online trainings are designed as an introduction for minor athletes and their parents or other caregivers to understand the importance of positive, welcoming environments in sports, where misconduct like bullying or abuse is less likely to happen, and to know where to report abuse, should it occur.

Parent Toolkits help parents understand SafeSport best practices and how to respond to signs of abuse.

DSUSA Covered Individuals

Training

Covered Individuals must successfully complete the training and quiz after the test in order to be eligible to participate with DSUSA. DSUSA has partnered with the U.S. Center on SafeSport to provide training through:

US Center for Safe Sport Training

Covered Individuals are required to complete awareness training, or a refresher course, as applicable, every year. The first training to commence no more than 30 day(s) before they have contact with athletes and/or minors in connection with DSUSA.

In the case of coaches selected to serve camps or events, training must be completed prior to the coach’s participation in any DSUSA pre-event training camp.
